Outdoor Land Recreation
Of course, Loveland’s Lakeside Camp & Market is located directly on Lay lake and offers all the activities associated with a lake. However, we are also located near many National and State Parks plus Wildlife Reserve Areas for those seeking land recreational activities such as: Hiking, Hunting, Birding, Mountain Biking, Birding, Photography, Wildlife Watching, Foraging and Off-Roading to name a few.
The Coosa Wildlife Management Area is one of Alabama’s oldest established public hunting areas: The Coosa WMA: Cahaba and Columbiana, Hancock Phase II and Weogufka Tract in Coosa County. This Wildlife Reserve 11,350 acres of mountain longleaf habitat share space with hardwood drains of the Weogufka and Hatchet Creek watersheds. The Coosa Wildlife Management Area is the perfect secluded place for: hunting, fishing, birding, hiking, and wildlife watching.

The Weogufka State Forest is located in Coosa County, Alabama. Flagg Mountain and the Pinhoti National Recreation Trail are popular destinations to visit and hike. Spanning over 11,000 acres, this forest boasts an abundance of diverse flora and fauna, including towering pines, hardwoods, and vibrant wildflowers. With its well-maintained trails, it provides ample opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife spotting. The tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty make Weogufka State Forest an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts.
Hollins Wildlife Management Area is located in the soutern part of the Talladega National Forest and covers an area that is 45.87 square miles. This wild area is a prime area for hunting but also offers: fishing, hiking, mountain biking, birding, wildlife watching. It’s easiest to navigate from the Trailheads.

Wind Creek State Park offers 1,444 scenic acres that hug the shoreline of Lake Martin and is only 46 miles from Lovelan’ds Lakeside. Wind Creek State Park hiking trails offer two main trails for hikers to choose from, the “Alabama Reunion Trail” and the “Campfire Trail.” Activities include: swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, zip lining, mountain biking, horseback riding, scenic drives, birding, and wildlife watching.

The Talladega National Forest covers 392,567 acres at the southern edge of the Appalachian Mountains. The forest’s second wilderness area, the Dugger Mountain Wilderness, protects the area around Alabama’s second-highest mountain peak. This large forest covers parts of eleven counties in Alabama. Activities include: swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, scenic drives, birding, and wildlife watching.

Oak Mountain State Park is Alabama’s largest state park and is just south of Birminham and within a 45 minute drive of Loveland’s Lakeside. Oak Mountain is beautiful and provides 9,940 acres of pine-studded ridges and lush green hardwood bottoms to explore. With the largest area and variety of outdoor recreational pursuits, Oak Mountain is sure to provide a memorable visit. Activities include: swimming, fishing, boating, golf, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, scenic drives, birding, and wildlife watching.
The Oakmulgee Wildlife Management Area is a wild area that offers 45,000 acres of pine ridges, hardwood bottoms and creeks which makes it an excellent habitat for wild turkey. Paths are not well maintained and rustic. Activities mostly include: deer and turkey hunting, birding, and wildlife watching. Payne Lake Recreation area offers: fishing and swimming.

Our camp is out in the woods near a small town, yet so close to many major cities in the southeastern USA. Which means we are the perfect get away spot to enjoy Lay Lake and the great outdoors! Easy enough for a day trip drive, yet secluded enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of city or town life near you.
